Scale 1/1 000 000 & 1/1 100 000Historically, Route 66 was the first road to be paved all the way to the west coast, and was used by millions of troops heading for the Pacific War against the Japanese during WW2. It was also used by millions of Americans heading west in the 1930s to the promised land of California and created such wonders as motels, fast food eateries, rest areas, and neon signs, many of which still exist. Oneside of the map has an inset of Chicago, showing it following Hwy36 (Route 66 no longer exists except as a historic route), then south to St. Louis, then west to Oklahoma City before one has to move to side 2 for the route west past Albuquerque, then through Flagstaff and the Mojave Desert to Los Angeles and the terminus of Route 66 on the beach at Santa Monica. This map can, of course, be equally valuable driving west to east or east to west.
