Turkish Coast: Antalya to Demre - Sunflower Plus Series

Price: 12.99

Quantity:

This new series combines the best features of ‘Landscapes‘ with all the detail you would expect in a hefty general guide, but they are all pocket size (the page size is just 15mm wider than ‘Landscapes‘ books) and in full colour. All the authors have been visiting Turkey for many years, writing general and walking guides. Dean Livesley was one of the original developers of the famous Lycian Way, Turkey‘s first long-distance footpath. A key feature of the book is coverage of the Lycian Way as day walks, with full transport details. Besides being intrepid explorers, Brian and Eileen Anderson are botanists and keen cooks! The main part of this book concentrates on the area west of Antalya, known both in antiquity and today as Lycia. Historical descriptions of the wild, fissured Lycian coastal region abound with superlatives. And the landscapes that sent so many writers into raptures have not changed for centuries. Despite all the hymns of praise, Lycia’s thinly populated coastal strip long remained untouched by tourism. It was so isolated that for a short time it even became a place of exile. Today, thanks to the building of Antalya’s international airport, millions of visitors happily spend their holidays in the places where unwanted dissidents were once forcibly detained. The whole Lycian Peninsula takes in a very large area and this volume concentrates on the region between Antalya and Demre/Kekova, east of Kas.

Turkish Coast: Kas to Dalyan - Sunflower Plus Series

Price: 14.99

Quantity:

This new series combines the best features of ‘Landscapes‘ with all the detail you would expect in a hefty general guide, but they are all pocket size (the page size is just 15mm wider than ‘Landscapes‘ books) and in full colour. The Lycian Peninsula takes in a very large area — running between Antalya and Lake Koycegiz south to the sea. It is impossible to do justice to the entire spread and feature walks in one book, so this volume concentrates on the region between Kas (including Kekova to the east) and Lake Koycegiz. A key feature of the book is coverage of the Lycian Way as day walks, with full transport details. A companion book, covering the stretch from Antalya to Demre, takes in the rest of Lycia. Historical descriptions of the wild, fissured Lycian coastal region abound with superlatives. It has been called the most beautiful in Turkey. And the landscapes that sent so many writers into raptures have not changed for centuries. Despite all the hymns of praise, the peninsula’s thinly populated coastal strip long remained untouched by tourism. It was so isolated that for a short time it even became a place of exile. Today, thanks to the many flights into the airports at Antalya and Dalaman, millions of visitors happily spend their holidays in the places where unwanted dissidents were once forcibly detained.

Landscapes of Tuscany

Price: 12.99

Quantity:

Tuscany - this most favourite of Italy's inland regions has been one of our most-requested destinations. We think enthusiasts of our guides will be delighted with the resulting book. It covers walks and tours ranging from the Carrera marble quarries in the northwest down to southern Tuscany, with a particular emphasis on the countryside round Florence and in the Chianti, making it especially suitable for those who wish to combine a visit to Florence with seeing something of the Italian countryside. (If you plan to do this, you'll need one of the many good city guides that are available for your exploration of Florence, whilst this new 'Landscape' will show you the best of the rural scene.)

In addition to the walking and touring notes, this book contains a wealth of information about Tuscany's customs and cuisine, flora, fauna and history all of them illustrated. The author has been resident in Tuscany for many years.

Landscapes of Umbria and the Marches

Price: 12.99

Quantity:

Umbria promotes itself as ‘Italy’s Green Heart’, and it’s true that the colour green dominates the landscape - from the glistening silver-green olive groves above Lake Trasimeno to the dark green holm oak woods edging the Valle Umbra and Valnerina and up to the oak forests, mountain pastures and high grassy plateaus of the Monti Sibillini. This picture is not only true for Umbria, but also for the lesser-known neighbouring region of the Marches. The main focal points of this guide are the two most beautiful areas of the Apennines in Umbria and the Marches - the idyllic, deeply-etched valley of Valnerina in Umbria and the legendary Monti Sibillini which rise to almost 2500m and lie mainly in the Marches. Naturally there is a wealth of art and architecture to be seen en route, whether you travel by car or on foot.
